Operations 和 Supply Chain 管理
All organizations (including manufacturing 和 service oriented organizations) have an operations function. The operations function makes the company run by finding the most efficient ways to produce a product or to deliver a service. The complexity of the global supply chain dem和s that businesses deliver better quality products 和 services -- with the best customer service, 在最快的时间里, 和 with a high degree of customization. These expectations make the operations function not only important, but critical to achieving success.
People with an education 和 experience in this field can make a substantial difference in a company’s profitability. Operations managers need good analytical, 解决问题, 和 behavioral management skills not only to diagnose problems 和 improve current operations systems, but also to communicate 和 gather support for the required changes.
概述
Today’s world dem和s that businesses deliver better quality products 和 services--with the best customer service, 在最快的时间里, 和 with a high degree of customization. These expectations make the operations function not only important, but critical to achieving success. Companies that manufacture items (cars, 电脑, 食品), companies that provide services (banks, 航空公司, 医院), 和 other kinds of organizations (educational, governmental) all have processes 和 operations.
The Vision Statement for our Operations 和 Supply Chain 管理 Program is practical, 及时的, 和 strongly connected to strategic initiatives in Indiana 和 the region.
Operations 和 Supply Chain 管理 majors will possess the ability to model 和 solve real business problems using appropriate analytical tools 和 advanced technology, 和 to communicate those solutions to the decision maker. They will underst和 the operational issues facing organizations 和 the role of operations management among other functional areas, preparing them for positions in firms of all sizes in all industries. They will underst和 how the integration of all functions across a business leads to improvements in quality, 效率, 和生产力, 和 how a global approach to making operating decisions benefits the entire organization, leading to improved competitiveness.
学生 who major in OSCM learn how all of the areas of business contribute to managing a company’s supply chain. They use the computer to analyze information 和 develop models that support decision making. They study operating systems 和 may choose to explore forecasting systems, 过程模拟, 风险和决策分析, 质量管理. Some choose to diversify by adding a course in marketing research, 管理信息系统, 或技术.
Many OSCM students choose to complete one or more internships. These may be done for academic credit or simply for the experience they provide. All of the classes work closely with local businesses to provide real data 和 real problems for students to use in class.
